On this week's Market Journal John Meurer of the J.E. Meuret Grain Company will analyze the size of the current US corn and soybean crops and discuss selling strategies for corn and soybeans and his expectations for the USDA August Crop Report.

Also from the Aug. 8 Market Journal:

Aphid and Pest Update   Bob Wright, UNL Extension entomologist, says aphid populations have been low so far, but that could quickly change under the right conditions. Bob also talks about other pests in soybeans and explains why later planted beans might be attractive for insects. The Aphid Speed Scout app is available online for growers to download and use for free. .

Third-Party Audits — Rob Eirich, UNL Extension educator and Nebraska Director of Beef Quality Assurance, explains the process of third-party audits in the beef industry. Eirich also describes how producers can prepare their operations for possible audits. More information on third-party audits can be found on the UNL BQA website.

Rise in Weed Resistance — Nebraska growers have rapidly adapted herbicide-tolerant soybean varieties. While that technology has given producers new options in weed control, one could argue it has also played a role in fueling weed resistance. Stevan Knezevic, UNL Extension integrated weed management specialist, discusses the rise in weed resistance on this week's program. Information on herbicide classifications is available from Take Action on Weeds. Nebraska-specific information on resistance management is available in UNL Extension's Guide for Weed Management.

Weather Forecast — Al Dutcher, UNL Extension state climatologist, gives his forecast for the coming week.
