Explore Alternative Crop Production Feb. 1 in Arapahoe

Republican Valley Biofuels will be hosting a seminar Friday, Feb. 1, at the Ella Missing Community Center in Arapahoe. The seminar will cover planting, fertilizing, harvesting and herbicides for alternative crops, particularly sunflowers, canola and camelina. Speakers also will discuss the Republication Valley Biofuels group and its plans for construction and alternative crop test plots. The luncheon speaker will be a representative of the National Sunflower Association.

The program will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. Lunch and refreshments will be available. Topics and speakers will include: 

  • Update on Republican Valley Biofuels, John McCoy, President and CEO of Orthman Energy
  • Oils in Alternative Crops and Growing Sunflowers, Bill Booker, UNL Extension Educator
  • Ag Navigator, Phil High, Farmer and past president of Kearney Area Ag Producers (KAAPA)
  • Grain Storage and Markets, Tim Goding, Ag Valley
  • Alternative Oil Crops for Biodiesel, Loren Isom, UNL's Industrial Ag Products Center
  • Farmer Panel
