NE Winter Wheat Forecast Drops 3%

Nebraska's winter wheat forecast is down 3% from last year, according to a May 9 USDA Crop Production Report.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that, based on May 1 conditions, Nebraska is expected to harvest 81.4 million bushels of winter wheat, down six percent from last year. Average yield is expected to be 44 bu/ac - down a bushel from last year but almost 4 bushels higher than the 10-year Nebraska average.

Nationally, the winter wheat harvest is expected to be 1.78 billion bushels, up 17% from 2007.
