Nebraska Buffer Strip Program Sign-up Starts September 15

Nebraska Buffer Strip Program Sign-up Starts September 15

August 28, 2008

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture will offer a sign-up period for the Nebraska Buffer Strip Program (NBSP) September 15 through November 15. This sign-up will incorporate the rate increases for irrigated acres, and should coincide with changes to the non-irrigated rental rates to be established by the Farm Service Agency for the Conservation Reserve Program.

Craig Romary, NDA Environmental Programs Specialist, said they expect to have enough funding to cover all applications which meet program eligibility, but approval will be dependent on the number of applications received and available funding.

This sign-up will be for:

  • New NBSP applications
  • Expired NBSP contracts
  • Existing NBSP contracts scheduled to expire between now and June 30, 2009.

New NBSP program information is available online at http://www.agr.ne.gov/division/bpi/pes/buff.htm.
