USDA: Nebraska Cattle on Feed up 1%

Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 1.92 million cattle on feed on August 1, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. The inventory was up 1% from last year but 2% below August 1, 2006. Placements in feedlots during July totaled 320,000 head, down 9% from 2007 and 16% below 2006.

Marketings of fed cattle during July totaled 440,000 head, down 8 percent from last yearbut 7% above July two years ago. Other disappearance during July totaled 10,000 head thesame as 2007 and 2006.

Nationally, cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots withcapacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 9.87 million head on August 1, 2008. The inventory was4% below August 1, 2007 and 9% below August 1, 2006.Placements in feedlots during July totaled 1.66 million, 2% above 2007 but15% below 2006.

Marketings of fed cattle during July totaled 2.04 million, 2% above 2007 and5% above 2006. Other disappearance totaled 45,000 during July, 26% below 2007and 22% below 2006.
