Drought Monitoring Tools

The National Drought Mitigation Center, housed at UNL, offers information and a variety of tools to monitor drought. Following are a few, but visit the site at http://drought.unl.edu for more.

This week's Market Journal features a story on the newly revised and enhanced Drought Monitor map prepared by the National Drought Mitigation Center housed at UNL. The map now includes state and regional information. Meghan Sittler, research and outreach specialist for the Center, says a complement to the map is the drought impact reporter. For more information, visit http://drought.unl.edu.

Also on this week's program:

  • Hog markets with Ron Plain, Extension Marketing Specialist, University of Missouri-Columbia
  • Fall corn diseases with Tamra Jackson, UNL Extension Plant Plathologist
  • Impacts of the financial crisis with David Kohl, professor emeritus at Virginia Tech University
  • Weather Update with Al Dutcher, Nebraska State Climatologist

On the next Market Journal on Oct. 10, the featured topic will be causes of the current financial crisis and potential impacts on ag businesses and rural economies.
