Nebraska Soybean Day and Machinery Expo Dec. 12

Soybean production, pest management, and marketing will be among the topics at this year's Nebraska Soybean Day and Machinery Expo scheduled for Dec. 12 in Wahoo.

The expo will begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee, doughnuts and the opportunity to view equipment and exhibitor booths in the pavilion at the Saunders County Fairgrounds. Speakers will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m.

Presenters include UNL researchers and specialists, Nebraska Soybean Board representatives, soybean growers and private industry representatives.

"Grain Marketing is Simple" will be presented by Ed Usset. Usset is a grain marketing specialist at the University of Minnesota and is part of the team that developed the award winning "Winning the Game" series of workshops. He currently teaches a course on "Futures and Options Markets" at the university. His first book, "Grain Marketing is Simple (it's just not easy)" was released in September 2007. Usset will discuss how to simplify pre- and post-harvest marketing.

  • On-Farm Soybean Production Research Results From Area Growers;
  • Early Soybean Planting Dates - An Economic Analysis;
  • Making Dollars and Decisions With The New Farm Bill;
  • Nebraska Soybean Checkoff Update; and
  • Foliar Soybean Disease Management! Do You Need It?

Producers will be able to visit with representatives from seed, herbicide, fertilizer and equipment companies and view new farm equipment during a 30-minute break at 10 a.m.

Soy doughnuts will be cooked on site and the Pancake Man will serve a complementary lunch.
