No-till Field Day near Alliance May 26

May 22, 2009

The Watson Brothers Farm will host a no-till field day this Tuesday, May 26, near Alliance, starting at 9 a.m. This will be the first of several no-till production meetings planned for the Panhandle this summer.

This tour will cover both dryland and irrigated no-till wheat production. This year's irrigated wheat was planted into edible bean stubble and dryland wheat was planted into peas, edible beans, millet, or spring wheat. Red clover was also broadcast into test strips in dryland and irrigated wheat. Other crops on the field day include dryland and irrigated corn and no-till sugar beets planted into corn and wheat stubble. Depending on the weather and planting conditions, there also may be a demonstration of planting edible bean into irrigated corn stalks.
