NebGuide on Harvesting Crop Residues Newly Revised - UNL CropWatch, August 16, 2012

August 16, 2012

The UNL Extension NebGuide G1846, Harvesting Crop Residues, has been revised and is now available on the Web at http://www.ianrpubs.unl.edu/sendIt/g1846.pdf.

Corn stover is a valuable resource for the Nebraska cattle industry. Demand is likely to be especially high this year due to drought suppressed grasslands and shortage of forage throughout the Great Plains. The NebGuide provides guidelines for estimating the value of the crop residue and how to avoid or minimize effects on soil degradation at harvest while avoiding negative effects on future irrigated crop yields.
