Wheat Harvest 1/3 Done

About 5% of the state’s corn crop had silked, compared to 0% last year and average. Corn conditions rated 1% very poor, 8% poor, 31% fair, 52% good, and 8% excellent, below last year’s 78% good to excellent and the 79% average. Irrigated corn conditions rated 69% good to excellent and dryland corn rated 45%.

About 12% of soybeans were blooming, ahead of 0% last year and 1% average. Soybean conditions rated 1% very poor, 9% poor, 33% fair, 51% good, and 6% excellent, below last year’s 80% good to excellent and 79% average.

Ninety-eight percent of the sorghum crop had emerged, ahead of 94% last year and 90% average. Sorghum conditions rated 1% very poor, 11% poor, 36% fair, 49% good, and 3% excellent, below last year’s 78% good to excellent and 74% average.

Approximately 99% of the wheat crop had turned color and 64% was ripe. This is well ahead of normal, comparing to long-term averages of 59% and 5% respectively. About 32% of the crop had been harvested, compared to 0% last year and average. Wheat conditions rated 4% very poor, 16% poor, 40% fair, 37% good, and 3% excellent, well below 56% good to excellent last year and 63 average.

About 97% of the oat crop had headed, well ahead of 74% last year and 12 days ahead of the 79% average. About 15% of the oat crop was harvested, compared to 0% for this time last year and the long-term average. Oat condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 35% fair, 58% good, and 1% excellent, below 85% good to excellent last year and 84% average.

About 98% of the dry beans had been planted, ahead of 95% last year and 96% average. Eighty-four percent had emerged, ahead of 64% last year and 75% average. Dry bean condition rated 5% poor, 55% fair, 39% good, and 1% excellent, below 45% good to excellent last year.

Proso millet planting was 99% complete, ahead of 75% last year and two weeks ahead of the average of 72%.

The second cutting of alfalfa was 67% complete, well ahead of 4% last year and 5% average. Alfalfa rated 7% very poor, 22% poor, 38% fair, 30% good, and 3% excellent, well below 82% good to excellent last year and the average of 74%.

Wild hay harvest was 30% complete, ahead of 15% last year and the 5% average. Wild hay condition rated 7% very poor, 12% poor, 31% fair, 50% good, and 0% excellent, below last year’s 75% good to excellent.
