Gudmundsen Sandhills Lab Holds Open House Aug. 24 - UNL CropWatch, Aug. 3, 2011

UNL's Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory will host an open house Aug. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. MT.

The event will include exhibits and presentations on cattle and natural resource management.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a welcome at 9:30 a.m. by Don Adams, director of UNL's West Central Research and Extension Center in North Platte, and Linda Boeckner, director of UNL's Panhandle Research and Extension Center in Scottsbluff.  Presentations will be in the Wagonhammer Education Center at the laboratory near Whitman.

This 12th annual open house is geared toward producers but anyone is welcome to attend. Exhibits will be on display throughout the day and guests may come and go as they please.

Businesses, services, and associations supporting the beef cattle industry will participate.

Morning presentations include "Cattle Markets: Situation, Outlook and Issues" and a producer panel, "Adding Profit Centers to the Ranch."

NU Vice President and IANR Harlan Vice Chancellor Ronnie Green will give remarks at 11:40 a.m. before lunch at noon.

In the afternoon participants can attend sessions on feeding distillers to yearlings on grass, determining forage intake of cow and calf pairs, Sandhills rangeland fly control, Sandhills range plants, the Mobile Beef Lab or other research updates. They also can view exhibits.
