If you're interested in reducing your irrigation expenses and increasing the efficiency of your center pivot, you'll be interested in UNL's Center Pivot Water Conservation Project and a Feb. 15 meeting in Hastings.  Previous Pivot Project attendees reported reducing their pumping by 2 inches and saving $8.40 an acre.

Center Pivot Water Conservation Project

This project is designed to help you:

  • Manage your pivot to get the greatest efficiency possible.
  • Use technology to remotely operate your pivot.
  • Reduce fuel costs by monitoring your pumping plant performance.
  • Enhance the return from a limited water supply.
  • Manage your pivot to protect groundwater quality.

The next Pivot Project Meeting will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings.

The goal of this three-year project is to maximize the benefit of a constrained water supply by helping irrigators apply water more efficiently. The project is being conducted statewide with special emphasis on the Republican River and Platte River basins upstream of Kearney.
