Get the latest information on crop insurance changes at a Crop Insurance Update Thursday, March 3 in Norfolk. The program, hosted by UNL Extension in Madision County, will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center at 601 E. Benjamin Ave.

Agricultural crop producers have long utilized crop insurance to help mitigate production risks. Understanding how these products work and how to successfully use them both in production and business operations is vital to the sustainability of today's farms. 

In 2010 significant changes were made to the crop insurance products available from the Risk Management Agency. These changes were made to simplify the decisions that producers need to make to use these tools effectively. The RMA now offers a reduced set of options. It's important to understand the expected outcomes of these insurance vehicles when selecting the best one to meet your farm business goals.

Topics and Speakers

Program topics will include:

• New product options and available option levels
• The effect on the business of selecting one product over another
• An overview of the yield and revenue pricing guarantees for 2011
• Expected premium costs and how they changed with this new program
• A review of the Supplemental Revenue Assurance program
• How all these insurance products fit together.
• Effective crop marketing strategies to sell the cost of insurance on the farm
