Based on September 1 conditions, Nebraska’s corn crop is forecast at 1.53 billion bushels, 1% below last month and 3% below last year, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service,Nebraska Field Office. Yield is forecast at a record high 179 bushels per acre, 1 bushel below last month. Acres to be harvested for grain, at 8.55 million, are down 3% from a year ago.

Soybean production in Nebraska is forecast at a record high 294 million bushels, up 4% from last month and 13% above last year. Yield is forecast at 55 bushels per acre, up 2 bushels from August and .5 bushel above the 2009 record high. Acres for harvest, at 5.35 million, are unchanged from last month and up 12% from a year ago.

Sorghum production is forecast at 6.1 million bushels, unchanged from the August forecast but down 53% from last year. Yield is forecast at 94 bushels per acre, unchanged from the previous month but 1 bushel above a year ago. Acres for harvest, at 65,000, are unchanged from last month but less than half the acreage harvested in 2009.

Sugarbeet production of 1.05 million tons is down 6% from last month and 19% below 2009. Yield, at 22.0 tons per acre, is down 1.5 tons from last month and 2.6 tons below a year ago.
