Roy Smith, grain consultant and Plattsmouth farmer, shares his analysis of the grain market with program host Doug Jose, UNL extension farm management specialist. Smith says old crop corn is still being delivered which is contributing to a wide basis with little incentive to do any forward pricing right now. He suggests watching the soybean basis closely to see if the current narrow basis on cash deliveries continues into harvest.

• VeraSun Bankruptcy – Dave Aiken, UNL extension ag and water law specialist, encourages farmers to seek legal counsel if they recently received a letter from the VeraSun bankruptcy trustee seeking repayment.
• Transferring the Family Business – Dave Specht, family business consultant and UNL professor in business management, says communication is integral to working out a family business transition plan and recommends that the older generation take the lead.
• UNL Soybean and Water Research -- Jim Specht, UNL agronomist, reports that the tap root on soybeans grows down at the rate of about a half an inch a day. This data is used as part of the SoyWater Irrigation Management System.
• Rain and Mild Temperatures – Al Dutcher, UNL extension state climatologist, says eastern Nebraska may see some rain in the early part of the week with temperatures rising into the 80s but falling back into the 70s toward the end of the period.
