UNL CropWatch June 8, 2010: Light Trap Data available for Nebraska
June 8, 2010
UNL light trap data is now available online at http://entomology.unl.edu/fldcrops/lightrap.shtml for three locations: South Central Ag Lab, Clay Center, West Central Research and Extension Center, North Platte, and the Haskell Ag Lab, Concord. Seasonal occurrence of moths varies each year; light traps are one way to provide an early warning of when egg laying is likely, and subsequently, when various crops should be monitored for damage from caterpillars.
European corn borer moth flight has begun at each of these locations. Non-Bt corn hybrids should be scouted for corn borer injury in the mid-whorl stage (6-8 leaf stage).
