Sorghum Field Days to Feature Industry Agronomist

Rick Kochenower, sorghum agronomist for Chromatin, Inc., will be a guest speaker at the Nebraska Sorghum Field Days Sept. 7 in Trenton and Sept. 8 in Farwell.

“Dr. Kochenower’s after dinner presentation will focus on sorghum’s water use efficiency,” said Lynn Belitz of Fullerton, president of the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Producers. Other program topics will include field performance of commercial hybrids, new market opportunities, and production practices. 

 The field stops include plot tours with management information from the field cooperator and sorghum seed representatives sharing information on hybrids.  A meal and program will follow the field tours. Varied by location, the meal program will include industry experts to discuss new market opportunities and sorghum checkoff representatives to provide an update on research and market development projects.  Ag West Commodities will also provide a market outlook at the Trenton location and market dynamics will also be discussed at Farwell.

Participating seed companies include Arrow Seed, Channel Seed, Dekalb, Dyna-Gro, Fontanelle, Hoegemeyer, NuTech Seed, Pioneer, and Sorghum Partners.

Planning and coordination of the event is by the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board and Nebraska Grain Sorghum Producers Association.

 Schedule

  • Wednesday September 7, 5:30 p.m. near Trenton – Mike Baker Farm dryland plot:  (4.5 miles north of Trenton to Rd 719; go west 1 mile)
  •  Thursday, September 8, 6:00 p.m. – Farwell
    John Dvoracek Farm irrigated plot:  Off of Hwy 92 at west edge of Farwell, go 2 miles north on Salem, 1 mile west on 15th Avenue, and 1¼ mile north on Tilden; turn left into field at plot sign at bridge

    Tim Scheer Farm irrigated plot:  6 miles west of St. Paul on Hwy 92 and ½ mile south on the west side of the road – follow plot sign.
